Fashion Flashback

The thing about fashion (and nearly everything in life) is that its cyclical. The very reason its so easy to look as though you're in costume is based largely on this reality alone, and as fashion dares to pull from the gender-clash of patterns past, we bring you black male advertisements from the 1970s.

The ads above and below are examples of how the black community, (despite only being "allowed" to dress themselves* only after the dawn of the 1900s) were always at the forefront of style. By modifying the men's dress collar and cultivating looks unique to black male swagger, the black male emerged as the coolest cat around.

He was not as stringent as his white male counterpart or as plain as his suburban Nemesis. He wasn't as tightly wound as his superiors at work. No, the black male was the epitome of smooth and his dress was his mouth piece. So sit back Sirs, and grab some moonshine, its time to reevaluate what it means to be a well dressed modern man by looking into our crystal ball of days-gone-by.

*Emancipation was granted in 1865 and nobody, i mean NOBODY was given the privilege of self-expression before then... and not often after. Just a note in case you are one of the BILLION men who don't know the full spectrum of American History...
